Opposition to new Offaly wind farm.

Bord Na Móna says its new wind farm at Mount Lucas in County Offaly will provide energy for over 45,000 homes.

The €115 million plant will be officially opened today by Minister for Energy and Natural Resources Alex White.

However, Wind Aware Ireland, a voluntary group concerned about wind energy – says the plant will only power homes if it has permanent back-up from coal or gas.

They also say the facility will emit noise levels three times those recommended by the World Health Organisation.
