Opponents to children’s hospital plan consider appeal

The Connolly for Kids Hospital campaign group and the Jack and Jill Foundation have sought legal advice on challenging the decision to build the new National Children’s’ Hospital in Dublin’s north inner city.

They claim a ‘shameful decision’ was taken by the government yesterday, in approving the construction contract for the site at St James’ Hospital, and they’ve sent a ‘holding letter’ to the parties involved.

The founder and chairman of the Jack and Jill Foundation – Jonathan Irwin says pressing ahead with the inner city site is a waste of public money.

Meanwhile
A board member of Holles St says he still has major concerns about the ownership of the new national maternity hospital.

The Board voted last night to press ahead with building the facility beside St. Vincent’s in Dublin and reaffirmed its commitment to the original deal.

It confirms that the hospital’s independence will be enshrined in its memorandum and articles of association and related legal agreements.

Sinn Fein Councillor and board member Micheál Mac Donncha voted against the motion because he still feels it doesn’t solve the ownership issue.
