63 year old Eiji Takagi and 61 year old Ushio Azaki checked out of their hotel in Spanish Point in Clare on Saturday morning.
The alarm was raised by locals who noticed that the couple – who were both due to fly out from Shannon Airport on Monday – had not returned to their rental car at Georges Head car park in Kilkee for a number of days.

A search operation has been ongoing since yesterday by the Gardai and the Coastguard.
