Nursing union highlight attacks on staff

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation's calling for more to be done to protect hospital staff.

It's reacting to figures in today's Irish Examiner which show more than 600 workers are assaulted each year.

HSE statistics released under Freedom of Information legislation show nearly 3 and a half thousand cases were recorded in a five and a half year period.

Frontline staff were the victims in 70 per cent of cases of assault.
