Councillors in North Tipperary have called for all discussion on the amalgamation of Tipperary Councils to cease, until the Government puts forward a clear outline of what savings will be made by the move.
A number of Councillors expressed their concerns that the amalgamation is being forced through, without any consideration of its effects.
Councillor Michael Smith this week called for all discussion on the future amalgamation to cease until such time as the Government can clearly show what savings will be made by such a move.
Other Councillors supported this and expressed concerns at the plans.
Councillor Jim Casey said they are in limbo, as they have yet to be informed of changes to areas.
Councillor Seamie Morris said a meeting organised by the Local Authority Members Association about the merger, was only attended by North Tipp members. He said there also need to be assurances that investment will be made in the County after the merger.
Councillor Bill Clancy suggested that they should engage with Limerick Councillors and ask for their feedback, following the merger in Limerick City and County Councils.
The Council will now write to the Minister and ask for all concerns to be immediately addressed before further discussion takes place.
