The Taoiseach contacted the Environment Minister by phone yesterday to discuss a meeting Phil Hogan had with North Tipp T.D Michael Lowry, days after the publication of the report from the Moriarty Tribunal.

The Environment Minister has been under pressure over the meeting in March of last year.

Meanwhile, two other Fine Gael ministers  – Michael Noonan and James Reilly – have confirmed that Michael Lowry was present at meetings they had with other people last year.

Michael Lowry's son has reacted to the controversy surrounding the meeting between his father and the minister by saying it must be a 'slow news week'.

Micháel Lowry, who's the mayor of North Tipperary, says the meeting was arranged to discuss the business of a local company – and was simply part of his father's job.
