It's reported that no new house or apartment was inspected by North Tipperary County Council for fire hazards or structural defects in 2011.

According to the Irish Independent eight out of 10 new homes across the country are never inspected by local authorities – that's despite the fallout from the Priory Hall controversy in Dublin.

Local authority inspectors are supposed to carry out random checks on new buildings.

However, a report comparing the performance of each local authority, seen by the newspaper, found that not one house or apartment was inspected in North Tipp or County Galway in 2011.
