The mother of a Tipperary man shot dead in Bolivia says new developments in the case have brought her light at the end of the tunnel.

Michael Dwyer, from Ballinderry in North Tipperary, died in a hotel in April 2009 and authorities there claim he was killed, along with two other men in a shootout after earlier fleeing arrest.

They have alleged he was part of an assassination plot against the country's President – something his family denies.

Now the former public prosecutor in the case has cast doubt over the State's claims.

Marcelo Soza is seeking asylum in Brazil, and is willing to testify to officials in Europe about his investigations.

Michael Dwyer's mother Caroline has met with him. She says it has given her some hope of getting justice.

“It does feel very much (that) there is light at the end of the tunnel now in that this is so significant” she said.

“Everything else has been our gathering of evidence – now it's coming form someone who was involved in the case form the very beginning, not someone that came at the middle of it or anything”.

“Someone who was there at the very beginning has all of the evidence and showed it to us – and now confirms everything we've been saying for the last five years” she added.
