Efforts to tackle dog fouling in Tipperary’s towns and villages are getting a boost.

Its after the Environment Minister announced local authorities are set to get extra resources to deal with the persistent problem which can impact negatively on tourism as well as cause serious health issues.

Owners who fail to clean up after their dogs can be hit with on the spot fines or court convictions but councils currently don’t have the resources to police this.

Independent councillor Martin Lonergan says he hopes that the announcement by the Minister will address this.
