New overflow bay opens at South Tipp general today

Capacity at South Tipperary General Hospital is set to be addressed this week.

Today, the first patients are being accepted into the newly opened €1.6m 12-bay overflow unit that’s been built at the hospital.

A successful recruitment campaign has seen 18 new staff members hired – ranging from nursing staff to catering assistants.
Tenders are also, this week, being invited for the new 40 bed modular unit, which it’s hoped will be included in the Government’s capital plan – which is currently under review.

Following a week of overcrowding at the hospital, Tipp TD Michael Lowry says the additions will improve access to the hospital..
