It’s claimed North Tipp's Lower Ormond is very close to becoming one of the most disadvantaged areas in the country.

The loss of the council's Local Area Office in Borrisokane, electoral boundary changes and the overall economic downturn are being cited as reasons why the barony may require Rapid status.

It was raised during a debate at December's meeting of Nenagh Municipal District which heard calls for priority status for Borrisokane.

Local Councillor Michael O'Meara says major investment is needed – he says 15 to 20 new jobs would make a huge difference to the area.
