All 364 grave spaces at Shanrahan cemetery near Clogheen are filled and a local committee has been working to have the graveyard extended.

Seven submissions were received during the consultation phase of the project.

These ranged from concerns about the ancient ruined church on the site to possible effects
on the nearby River Duag.

Fine Gael Councillor Marie Murphy says the news of the go-ahead will be welcomed by local people.
