Around two thousand were full licence holders, but around 500 were learners.
According to today's Irish Independent, the most drivers received bans in 2009.

During the week it was announced that higher penalty points are being brought in for drivers caught speeding, using mobile phones behind the wheel, or not wearing seatbelts.
The new Road Traffic Act allows for the points to rise from two to three, for each of those offences.
