2000 additional places are to be made available on the Community Employment Programme.
Welcoming the news Local Area Representative Michael Murphy said it will bring the total number of places this year to 25,300.
The programme is part of the Government's wider efforts to help jobseekers to become employment-ready through training or educational opportunity.
Councillor Murphy said it plays a vital role for people looking for work and develops their skills, experience and confidence.
