Tests are being conducted on a number of packages recovered during the examination at Cork University Hospital.

Gardaí are investigating the possibility the 24-year-old Brazilian man was being used as a drugs mule.

Another passenger – a woman in her 40s – detained in relation to the investigation was thought to be in the possession of drugs.

Reporter Jonathan Healy says that does not appear to be the case.

“She was arrested after what was thought to have been a substantial amount of drugs – approximately two kilogrammes of a white substance was found in her possession” he said.

“However I understand from garda sources now that that substance has been tested and it turns out it is benign, it isn't drugs, and therefore it isn't actually a crime to have been in possession of it”.

“However she remains in garda custody this morning as they continue to investigate what links she may have had to this young man” he added.
