The man who brought Féile to Tipp has branded the GAA “as greedy” for attempting to hold 5 Garth Brooks gigs in Croke Park.
Two of the dates have now been cancelled at the venue after Dublin City Council cleared licences for just three of the concerts later this month- leaving thousands of fans devastated.
The local authority said granting permission for all five would have been unprecedented and have posed unacceptable levels of disruption to the local community.
Independent Tipperary TD and the man behind Féile, Michael Lowry believes the fault lies with the GAA and the concerts should have been spread to other venues nationwide.
Speaking to Tipp Fm Mr Lowry described the GAA as “over ambitious and blinded by money” and Croke Park “totally misjudged the reaction of the local community and “completely misjudged opposition of Sinn Fein councillors who control the Dublin Council which is the licensing authority”.
He added that” the GAA should never have attempted anymore than three concerts and that the extra demand should have been dealt with at rural stadiums such as Semple” which had been in contact with HQ to say the Thurles venue was available.
