Minutes silence in UK for London victims

A minute’s silence will be held across Britain today in memory of those killed or injured in Saturday terror attack in London.

It comes as general electioneering gets back into full swing ahead of Thursday’s vote.

Two of the three attackers from last Saturday night’s terror attack have been named, with one having spent time in Dublin.

It’s not yet clear what ties Khuram Butt and Rachid Redouane – two of the three suspects from last Saturday’s attack – had with the Islamic State in Iraq or Syria, but Rachid Redouane spent years in Dublin while travelling back and forth to the UK.

Yesterday evening, London mayor Sadiq Khan condemned the barbaric terrorists and vowed not to let them alter Britain’s way of life.

In the UK General Election, Theresa May’s cuts to police funding during her time as home secretary is being held up as part of the reason some terrorists have been able to operate undetected.

In the polls, there is no definitive prediction for this Thursday’s vote: some showing the conservatives 11 points ahead; others showing a hung parliament.
Meanwhile in Australia

It’s emerged the gunman who killed a man and took a woman hostage there was previously cleared of plotting a suicide attack.

Police shot Yacqub Khayre dead during the siege in Melbourne yesterday.

Three officers were also injured.

The 29 year-old was one of two men acquitted by a jury in 2010 of plotting an attack in Sydney.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull says people must stay alert.
