Local bus companies are being asked to explore the possibility of a service between Nenagh and Thurles.

Public Transport Minister Alan Kelly says the route may be viable due to increased numbers attending the LIT campus in Thurles.

The Thurles campus will see student numbers grow significantly in the college this coming September.

This means many people that would have commuted to Limerick every day from Nenagh will now be looking for opportunities to use a bus service to Thurles.

Minister Kelly has already started the groundwork for the venture by meeting with the National Transport Authority who have confirmed that they will licence an operator to run a service from Nenagh to Thurles if local companies are willing to apply.
