A sleep out to raise money for homeless Defence Force veterans will take place in Waterford over the next two days.

The initiative, organised by the charity O.N.E, aims to shed light on the realities faced by former Defence Force members, and will highlight their mental and housing needs.

Audra Larkin, Veterans Support Officer and Chairperson of the Organisation for National Ex-Service Personnel’s South Tipperary Branch, says they’re often forgotten.

“We will be sleeping out in Waterford until 6pm on Christmas Eve.

“The purpose of the sleep out is really to raise awareness about veteran homelessness in Ireland. Veterans are embedded in all of our communities right around the country and we do have veterans who are experiencing homelessness issues.”
