Michael Lowry highlights the plight of Tipperary families trapped in Shared Ownership Scheme.

A large number of families in Tipperary are trapped in a Shared Ownership Scheme according to Deputy Michael Lowry.

The Independent T.D. says the now defunct scheme has left many in a vicious cycle and driven the families into financial hardship.

He has called for immediate action from the Government  to tackle the problem.

The Shared Ownership Scheme was designed to allow people on low income to start buying a percentage of their home from the Local Authority until they eventually became outright owners.

Many opted for a 50:50 option – buying half of the house and renting the other half.

However the with rent on the Council owned portion increasing by 4.5% every year Michael Lowry says something has to be done.
