Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath has defended his comments over the delay to the Fethard and Burncourt water treatment plants.

The Deputy came under fire from South Tipp Councillors yesterday who branded his criticism as unwarrented, unfair and a political stunt.

However he insists he was mearly pointing out that both the Environment Minister Phill Hogan made false promises on the project's timeframe to commence.

Deputy McGrath accused Junior Minister Hayes of jumping the gun on the project during an interview on Tipp Today several months ago – when he knew it wasn't over the line
