Mattie plays down talk of formation of new Independent party

A Tipperary TD has played down reports that a new political party is to be formed which will promote rural and pro life issues.

Mattie McGrath says it’s not accurate that a group of Independant TD’s are on the cusp of forming a new party ahead of the next General election.

The group which includes Cork TD Michael Collins, Clare TD Michael Harty, Danny Healy-Rae from Kerry and Galway West TD Noel Grealish were all present at a meeting, organised by former Fianna Fáil senator John Hanafin.

It’s been reported that the party would be focused on rural issues while also giving a voice to people with a pro life view.

But speaking to Tipp FM, Deputy Mattie McGrath said while there has been discussions, nothing concrete has been decided
