A massive iceberg – almost one and a half times the size of Tipperary – has broken off the Antarctic ice shelf.
The giant block is estimated to cover an area of almost 6,000 sq kilometres.
Scientists were expecting it as they had been been monitoring a growing crack.
The release of the new iceberg – called calving – was detected by a satellite.
