Mary Newman seeking nomination in the Seanad

Fine Gael Election hopeful Mary Newman has announced she is also seeking a nomination to contest a Seanad by-election to fill the seat vacated by Labour’s Denis Landy.

Ms Newman, who’s from Lagganstown, New Inn, says she’s not hedging her bets – but that her aim is to represent Tipperary in Leinster House.

With the country not due a general election for 3 more years – Ms Newman says taking up a Seanad seat would enable her to work in politics before attempting to win a Dail seat.

She says the Government seems stable at the moment…
