Man injured in Portumna crash.

A man is being treated for serious head injuries following a crash on the Nenagh – Portumna road this morning.

He was travelling in a van with three other men at about 6.30 am when they hit the bridge at Portumna.

The injured man has been taken to Portiuncula hospital in Ballinasloe – the other three men were uninjured.

Gardaí in Portumna have closed the road for a forensic examination.

Witnesses are asked to contact Portumna Garda station on 0909 742060

Motorists travelling from the south and east should first divert via Birr and then Banagher. Those coming from the west are advised to divert via Killimor and then onto Banagher.

Diversions will add about an hour to your journey
