Man due in court following Clonmel robbery

A 21 year old man is due in court this morning charged in connection with an armed robbery at a 24 hour garage in Clonmel.

Gardaí subsequently confronted a suspect brandishing what appeared to be a handgun as he made his way towards the town centre.

At 4.30 yesterday morning Gardaí received a call about a robbery that had just occurred at the Applegreen Petrol Station on the Dungarvan Road.

The suspect who was brandishing a firearm left the scene on foot and as he approached Clonmel Town Centre he pointed the weapon at Gardaí who were responding to the raid.

Officers kept him under observation while clearing the area before armed Gardaí confronted and arrested the man.

The 21 year old was taken to Clonmel Garda Station for questioning and subsequently charged in connection with the robbery

He is due before Clonmel District Court at 10.30 this morning.
