Man charged with terrorism offences appears in court

A 25 year-old man has appeared in court in Waterford charged with two offences under the Criminal Justice Terrorist Offences Act.

Hassan Bal, with an address at O’Connell Street in Waterford, was arrested in the city before 10am on Thursday morning.

He is charged with providing funding for a foreign terrorist group on October 2 of 2015, and attempting to provide funding to a foreign terrorist group on October 23 of 2015.

The court heard the accused made no reply to either charge.

Mr Bal, who is originally from the UK, has lived in Ireland for over a decade and holds an Irish passport.
