Major study on recreational angling on the Suir to be launched this evening.

The Minister of State at the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources will be in Tipperary today to launch a study on recreational angling and also to promote various tourism initiatives along the River Suir.

Minister Fergus O'Dowd will take a boat trip from Carrick on Suir to Kilsheelan, plant a willow tree and unveil a plaque to commemorate horsemen, boatmen and fishermen who used the tow path down through the years.

According to local Minister of State Tom Hayes the study on recreational angling is one of the biggest ever undertaken on the matter.

Tom Hayes is hopeful that plans which were announced last week will see the tow path turned into a cycling and walking greenway, similar to that created to great effect in Westport.
