From the boom of 2000 when car sales peaked to the recession years new car sales in North Tipp have halved from 3,113 at the turn of the century to 1,530 in 2012.
South Tipperary new car registrations have plummeted by 80% over the same 12 years – down from a peak of 4,061 to just 808 last year.
Second hand imports in South Tipp were almost identical at 498 and 501 for 2000 and 2012 respectively.
However imports in North Tipp have more than doubled from 399 to 854 over the same period.
