The M8 remains closed in both directions between Cahir and Cashel following two crashes.
Seven people have been taken to South Tipperary General Hospital – the extent of their injuries is not known as yet.
Emergency services remain at the scene – its hoped the northbound lane will be re-opened within half an hour.
The southbound lane is likely to remain closed for a little longer.
Motorists are being warned to divert in Cahir and Cashel.
