27,000 second-level teachers – including hundreds in Tipperary – will stage a lunchtime demonstration outside schools today as the Junior Cycle reform dispute continues.

The protest is being organised by the ASTI and TUI who aim to highlight their increasing opposition to the proposals.

The unions maintain that external assessment will protect standards, equity and quality.

Pat King is the General Secretary of ASTI – he says teachers are extremely concerned about these proposals and the effects they will have on students.
