Tipperary TD Michael Lowry and the Regional Group have tabled amendments to the Government’s Finance Bill.
It follows a direct meeting with Ministers Jack Chambers and Paschal Donohoe ahead of the Dail debate today (weds)
The Thurles Deputy says the amendments are aimed at challenging what he describes as the Government’s neglect of the Hospitality and SME sectors in the Budget.
“The Government failed to recognise and offer meaningful support to these sectors in Budget 2025.
“We made a strong case to both Finance Ministers for a review of the VAT rate and the rising costs of imposed as a result of Government measures affecting the hospitality and SME sector.
“The Government failed in the Budget to recognise this sector and by ignoring the impact of VAT and rising costs on small businesses it has left many enterprises on the brink of extinction.”
Michael Lowry is calling on his colleagues in the Dáil to back his amendments to the Finance Bill saying the future of many local businesses is under threat.
“Our amendments to the Finance Bill will be debated and subject to a Dáil vote. We encourage all Dáil members to support our call for an urgent review of this politically unwise decision which poses a major threat to the future of small businesses across Tipperary and the country.
“If action is not taken we will see another catalogue of closers after the Christmas period.”
