Lough Derg decision deferred

A decision on the extraction of water from Lough Derg to supplement supplies in Dublin, has been defferred.

Dublin City Council propose to extract a minimal 2 per cent of the water volume from the lake at times of high water levels, in order to supplement dwindling supplies in the capital.

The proposal has been met mostly with opposition from local politicians, residents and environment and recreation groups.

The decision from North Tipp County Council, is expected at their next Local Authority meeting in July.
