Local authority clarifies changes to roundabout layouts in Clonmel.

South Tipp County Council have explained the reasons for changes at a number of roundabouts in Clonmel which have come in for criticism.

Motorists have singled out the Fethard Road roundabout as now being especially dangerous following changes to road markings.

The new layout there means that traffic in the left lane is now only permitted to go left, while the right lane will now be used for motorists going straight on to the Fethard road and turning right.

Many have told Tipp FM that the changes have caused many near misses with other vehicles cutting them off.

But the Council say they made the changes in conjunction with Gardai to ease traffic travelling on to the Cashel road roundabout, which were being held up at the roundabout by drivers waiting to go straight ahead.

They say this delay led to dangerous driving manoeuvres.

They also warn that new road markings have also been introduced at the Moangarrif, Kilheffernan and Cahir road roundabouts.
