Local businesses have been forking out huge sums of money because Uisce Eireann hasn’t been able to supply them with water.

That’s according to Sinn Fein Cllr Davy Dunne who’s been highlighting the issue to the County Council.

He and party colleague Anne Marie Ryan brought a motion to the local authority’s monthly meeting calling for affected businesses to be reimbursed.

Cllr Dunne says the utility have warned the Dove Hill Shopping village outside Carrick-on-Suir that they can’t guarantee their supply.

He says they were left without water after Storm Eowyn and had to pay out to organise their own supply so they could reopen

“We were not getting the results that were required, it was not until the 5th day that we had to pay to bring in a water tanker”

“it is costing over a thousand euros to fill them up every second day to just keep the businesses open”
