After many false dawns work is to be carried out on the Slievenamon Road in the town before the end of the year.
Sections of the roadway have seriously deteriorated in recent years.
The works have been in the pipeline for some time and had been flagged to start on a number of occasions.
However this weeks meeting of the Thurles – Templemore Municipal District heard that the project has taken a major step forward.
District Cathaoirleach Seamus Hanafin says it’s not before time.
