There's expected to be some much needed relief for Nenagh businesses today as the local council prepares to pass its final budget.
No commercial rate increases are proposed while there will be a number of initiatives to boost trade in the town centre over the next twelve months.
In the wake of recent Live Register figures which show Nenagh experienced the biggest jump in dole queue figures in the county – proposals by council management to once again freeze rates is likely to have traders breathing a sigh of relief.
Despite the impending dissolution of the council – the local authority like its counterparts in South Tipperary – has drawn up a draft budget for the entire 12 months with proposals to set aside funding for a number of initiatives. They include improvements to the Nenagh Leisure Centre, monies for tourism and the arts as well as CCTV in the town centre.
The council will also look for approval to extend free weekend parking in the town centre – which some local traders feel has been hit badly by developments on the outskirts of Nenagh.
