Large turnout for Dublin water charge protest

The Anti-Austerity Alliance say one hundred thousand protesters turned out at a mass rally against water charges in Dublin this afternoon.

All roads have now reopened following the city-centre demonstration, during which marchers were urged NOT to pay the tax which came into force this month.

Reporter Francesca Comyn said that, at one point, speakers urged the crowd to send their selfies in their thousands to Tánaiste Joan Burton.
