It's emerged that 700,000 euro was taken from the Central Remedial Clinic's fundraising arm to pay for the pension of its former CEO.

Paul Kiely's payoff – worth over 470,000 euro – is more than twice the amount he disclosed to the Public Accounts Committee last month.

His successor as chief executive Brian Conlan says he wasn't aware of the payment until it was revealed at the committee this morning.

But he's admitted to Sinn Féin's Mary Lou McDonald that he was responsible for signing off on the arrangement.
