Members of South Tipperary County Council were this week brought up to date on the planned inspection of septic tanks.

Ireland is facing sanction from Europe because of its failure to implement proper septic tank regulations up to now.

The Environmental Protection Agency has ranked all areas of the country based on the level of risk.

A greater number of the inspections planned will be in high risk areas while unregistered households will be the initial target.

With 1,000 inspections planned nationally in 2013, just 39 of these will be in County Tipperary.

Householders will be given ten days prior notification of the inspection.
