At the Central Criminal Court today Justice Deirdre Murphy will deliver her charge to the jury before they deliberate on the evidence.
During closing arguments last Friday Defence Council for Maurice Power referred the jury to the later interviews with his client during which he admitted to shooting Shane Rossiter – he said there was a pattern in the process of those interviews whereby Gardai would take the 31 year old into the yard for a chat beforehand.
He also said that the details Mr Power gave to officers about where the deceased was shot didn't match the evidence of the state pathologist, he questioned why the gun couldn’t be recovered and pointed out that the only direct evidence was the confession itself which Mr McGinn said was made against a background of constant off camera contact.
In his final remarks – Prosecuting Council Anthony Sammon told the jury they could happily convict Mr Power as the evidence was compelling, the burning car, the chip removed from the CCTV camera and the very detailed confession to Gardai.
