Jail sentence for Breifne O’Brien

Ponzi fraudster Breifne O'Brien has been jailed for 7 years for stealing millions of Euro from his friends and associates during the boom.

The 52 year old from Cork but living in Monkstown Grove in Dublin deceived and stole from five individuals who lost a total of €8.5 million between 2003 and 2008.

Among them was Carrick on Suir dairy farmer Louis Dowley who was said to have lost €4 million.

Detective Sergeant Martin Griffin gave evidence only €420 thousand has been recouped and not €2 million as Dublin Circuit Criminal Court erroneously heard on the last occasion.
