The mother of two – who was in her 50s and originally from Palmerstown in Dublin but living in Perth – had been visiting her mother in Ireland, and was returning back to Australia.
In a statement, her family has asked for privacy to grieve. They describe Edel as an Irish version of a tiger mother – taking care of all those around her and was devoted to and immeasurably proud of her husband Derek, son Conor and daughter Ciara.
They say she would not anyone to waste time on hating those who carried out this attack.
Fr Tony Reilly- Parish Priest in Palmerstown has been speaking with her family, and says they're struggling to come to terms with Edel's death.
