Irish “Oscars” take place tonight

Irish stars of the silver screen will gather at Dublin’s Mansion House tonight for the annual Irish Film and Television Academy Awards.

Among those up for Best Actress in a TV drama are Oscar nominee Ruth Negga in Preacher, Catriona Balfe in Outlander and Amy Huberman in Striking Out.

Newcomer Alex Murphy who starred in The Young Offenders is up against the likes of Michael Fassbender in The Light Against Oceans and Jamie Dornan in The Siege of Jadotville for the award of Best Actor in a lead film role.

IFTA Chief Executive Áine Moriarty is delighted that this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award will be going to Irish actor Michael Gambon.
