The 54 year old is continuing to receive treatment in hospital following the incident on the University of Limerick campus on Monday morning.
A woman her mid 20's was arrested last evening in connection with the attack – under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

While a man arrested on Tuesday as part of investigations remains at Henry Street Garda Station in the city under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act.
