Browne: IPAS costs are unsustainable

The governments International Protection Accommodation Services is broken according to a Tipperary County Councillor.

It follows details of how much has been spent in providing housing for people who have sought International Protection from their home country.

Independent Liam Browne says the ordinary taxpayer is being taken for a ride as a result.

It’s a view the Cashel representative has held for some time – he told Tipp Today he feels vindicated.

“Last year over €1 billion was spent on IPAS accommodation – €2.7 million per day. That’s a 54% increase from the year before – in 2023 it was €622 million. And since 2019 which is only five years ago its gone up from €129 million to over €1 billion which is a ten times increase for accommodation of IPA’s.
