Insurance companies should now accept that the town of Clonmel is flood proof.
That's according to local Councillor Richie Molloy who has highlighted the fact that some companies are refusing to quote for any house in the Clonmel area as they regard the town as a flood risk.
The Independent representative raised the issue at this months meeting of Clonmel Borough Council.
He says the fact that €30 million was spent on flood defences for the town should be enough for the insurance companies.
Councillor Molloy says it's unfair to people of Clonmel and has asked the Borough Council to raise the matter with the national body representing insurance companies as a matter of urgency,
He has also called on local Oireachtas members to raise the issue in the Dail.
