The family of a Tipperary woman who died from undiagnosed cancer has accused South Tipp General Hospital of a “systems failure”.

An inquest into the death of 50 year old Teresa Doyle from Marian Avenue in Carrick on Suir heard that she died in 2007 from a form of lung cancer which can be difficult to detect.

Despite asking doctors at the hospital on a number of occasions if lung cancer was a possibility her family was told cancer was “not on the radar”.

The cancer was only discovered on Teresa Doyle's lungs during a post-mortem.
