The Head of North Tipperary’s IFA is demanding the immediate clean up of a river that leads into Silvermines amid real concerns over lead poisoning on the land.
It follows the recent death of several cattle from lead poisoning in the area with a major investigation underway to source the origins of the contamination which has affected several other dairy herds.
This week’s meeting of Nenagh Municipal District heard that the Inter Agency is looking at the possibility that the floods of 2015 lead to a run off into fields in the Silvermines area.
While the investigation continues North Tipp IFA chairman Tim Cullinane feels intermediate action can be taken now.
