The current GP was set to retire at the end of this month but no replacement had been found despite the HSE advertising the position.
Many Medical Card holders in particular had feared having to transfer to GP practices in towns outside of the area.

Deputy Michael Lowry met with HSE officials yesterday and says there have been some developments.
The current GP, Dr Fitzpatrick, will stay on until a replacement is found while the post will also be re-advertised.
